  • Who can take part in Impresario?
  • Any inspiring vocalists, dancers and composers aged between 15 and 35 as of 31 December 2011 who is not bounded to any professional organization related to the entertainment industry.
  • What are the categories for competition?
  • We have four categories open this year, namely Vocal Solo, Vocal Duet/Group, Dance, and Original Composition.
  • Can I join more than one category?
  • Yes.
  • Can I register for Impresario again if I did not manage to reach the finals in previous years?
  • Yes, you can as long as you were not the previous champion of Impresario.
  • How do I register for Impresario 2012?
  • Simply register online at www.cacimpresario.com from 10th October 2011 onwards
  • What is the registration fees payable for each category?

Vocal Solo & Vocal Duet/ Group

  • Can I sing in any languages?
  • No. All songs must be sung in either English or Mandarin.
  • Can I choose to sing with instrumental accompaniment?
  • Instrumental accompaniment is strictly not allowed during auditions. Semi-finalists would be allowed to bring in and play their own instruments while singing during the Semi-Finals. The playing of an instrument and/or use of instrumentalists is only allowed during the Grand Finals, and instruments used in the competition are subject to the Organizing Committee's approval.
  • Do I have to bring my own CD if I wish to sing with music?
  • Yes. If contestants wish to sing with music for the audition, they are required to provide their own minus-one/KTV CD/VCDS. Any other music sources are subjected to the availability of equipment.
  • Is there a maximum number of members for vocal groups?
  • Yes. Each group should consist of 2 to 5 vocalists only.
  • Can the group member of the Vocal Group be an instrumentalist?
  • An instrumentalist who is not a vocalist is cannot be a member of the group.
  • Can I join more than one Vocal Group in this competition?
  • No. Each participant is only allowed to form one group.
  • Who are the judges for the vocal categories?
  • Judges will be professional in-house instructors from our Official Music School

Campus Audition (Vocal Categories only)

  • Who can take part in Campus Audition?
  • Only current student and staff of NTU or NIE can register for Campus Audition. For Vocal Duet/Group, at least ONE member must be an existing student or staff of NTU or NIE.
  • Can I/my group try again in public audition after campus audition?
  • No. Contestants who took part in campus auditions are strictly prohibited from taking part in public auditions again.

Original Composition

  • Can I compose in any languages?
  • No. All compositions are to be in either English or Mandarin.
  • Is there a theme to follow for the composition?
  • No. We welcome contestants to pen any song of any theme.
    However, the Organizing Committee reserves the right to reject any song deemed unsuitable for the competition.
  • Can the music composer and the lyricist be different people.
  • Yes.
  • Can I send in more than one composition?
  • Yes. Contestants can send in multiple entries but only one may be selected for the Grand Finals.
  • What is considered an original composition?
  • The entry song should not have been published, judged by any other judging panel, broadcast, made available to the public or performed in any form (including but not limited to radio, television, the Internet or performed at official events as special guests) at any time before the Grand Finals.
  • How do I send in my composition?
  • Entry song(s) are to be submitted together with lyrics, within 2 weeks after the registration deadline, through either of the following means.

    1. Submission by mail.
      The lyrics and the entry song(s) in CD or MD form, are to be sent to the following address:

  • How will I know if the Organising Committee has received my submission?
  • The Organising Committee will send you an acknowledgement sms and email upon receiving your submission entry.
  • What are the stages of competition for Original Composition?
  • Judges from our Official Music Publisher will be doing the preliminary song selections what will enter the Semi-Finals. Finalists will be selected based on public voting and professional judging. Entries that make it to the final round will be performed during the Grand Finals.
  • When and how will I know the result of the preliminary song selections?
  • You will be notified of the result via email and sms by end of January.

Dance

  • Is there a maximum number of members for Dance Groups?
  • Yes. Each dance group should consist of 4 to 8 members only.
  • Can I dance any styles I like?
  • Yes.
  • Can I use any props for dance?
  • Yes, provided that these props are not dangerous materials (i.e. flammable or sharp objects).
  • How long should the performance during the Heats be?
  • The performance should NOT take more than 2 minutes for Heats.
  • Who are the judges for the dance category?
  • Judges will be professional in-house instructors from our Official Dance School.
