Rules and Regulations
THE FOLLOWING RULES AND REGULATIONS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE OR MODIFICATION AT ANY TIMEBY THE ORGANISING COMMITTEE WITH OR WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE.
FOR ALL CATEGORIES
- This competition is valid to vocalists, dancers and composers, aged between 15 and 35 as of 31st December 2011.
- Contestants are allowed to take part in more than one category.
- Contestants should NOT have produced any commercial albums prior to participating in Impresario 2012.
- Contestants should NOT have taken part in another competition at the same time as Impresario 2012.
- Contestants should not be bound to any professional organization related to the entertainment industry.
- The Organizing Committee will not be responsible for any breach of contract between the individual and the professional organization.
- Previous champions of Impresario are NOT allowed to participate in the category in which they won.
- Use of vulgar, sexually explicit, satanic/black metal or violent language and/or lyrics is strictly prohibited.
- All contestants must inform the Organizing Committee at least 3 days before the auditions should he/she wishes to withdraw from the competition or is unable to turn up for the allocated audition time slot. There shall be no refund of registration fees in the event of withdrawal.
- Contestants are to be punctual for their scheduled timeslots. Failure to do so will result in the shortening or forfeiting of their audition or rehearsal time.
- Allocation of audition slots will be on a first-come-first-serve basis.
- The Organizing Committee will not be responsible for any poor sound quality in music accompaniment or minus-one/KTV CD/VCDs.
- The Organizing Committee and its representative accept NO liability whatsoever, in respect of any loss, damage or injury sustained by any contestant during the course of competition.
- The Organizing Committee reserves the right to change the dates and venues of competition if the need arises.
- All finalists are required to turn up for the rehearsals. Absence without any valid reason will result in disqualification.
- There shall be NO repetition of the same item during the Semi-Finals and Grand Finals by the same participant.
- Judges' decision is final. No correspondence or appeal shall be entertained.
- Contestants are to take note that they may not be able to perform their entire piece during the auditions due to time constraints.
- All Contestants are to dress appropriately for the auditions, Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Grand Finals. Contestants are to refrain from wearing any clothing bearing offensive language or graphics.
- All participants automatically grant permission to the organizers the use of any photographs and/or videos as well as printing of names of groups for advertising, promotional and publicity purposes.
- All Rules and Regulations are subjected to changes by Impresario 2012 Organizing Committee.
- Contestants who failed to comply with the above stated rules and regulations will automatically be disqualified.
- The Organizing Committee's decision is final.
Vocal Solo
- All songs must be sung in English or Chinese.
- Contestants are allowed to perform any song of their choice for the auditions. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to reject any song deemed unsuitable for the competition.
- If contestants wish to sing with music for the audition, they are required to provide their own minus-one/KTV CD/VCDs. Any other music sources are subjected to the availability of equipment.
- The selection of song for the Grand Finals and Semi-Finals will be based on a first-come-first-serve basis after audition results are released.
- All finalists must inform the Organizing Committee of their choice of song/music at least 1 week before the Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Grand Finals.
- There should not be any repetition of songs for the Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Grand Finals for each participant.
- Participants are not allowed to perform any original composition.
- The Organizing Committee has the right to reject any last minute changes to the choice of song or minus-one/KTV CD/VCDs for Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Grand Finals after the given deadline.
- No instrument or instrumentalist is allowed during the Auditions and Quarter-Finals.
- The playing of an instrument by contestant only is allowed during the Semi-Finals. The playing of an instrument and/or adding instrumentalists is allowed only during the Grand Finals.
- Instruments used in the competition are subjected to the Organizing Committee's approval.
- Auditions will be held during the month of December 2012. Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals will be held in the month of January/February 2012, and Grand Finals, March 2012.
- Registration fee of $12 is applicable for this category.
- Closing date of registration is 4th December 2011.
Vocal Group/Duet
- All songs must be sung in English or Chinese.
- Each group should consist of 2 to 5 vocalists only.
- Each participant is only allowed to form one group.
- Each group is allowed to perform any song of their choice for the auditions. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to reject any song deemed unsuitable for the competition.
- Participants are not allowed to perform any original composition.
- If the group wishes to sing with music for the audition, they are required to provide their own minus-one/KTV CD/VCDs. Any other music sources are subjected to the availability of equipment.
- The selection of song for the Grand Finals and Semi-Finals will be based on a first-come-first-serve basis after audition results are released.
- All finalists must inform the Organizing Committee of their choice of song/music at least 1 week before the Semi-Finals and Grand Finals.
- The Organizing Committee has the right to reject any last minute changes to the song choice or minus-one/KTV CD/VCDs for Semi-Finals and Grand Finals after the given deadline.
- All members in the group must at least sing part of the main lyrics of the song. An instrumentalist who is not a vocalist is NOT considered a member of the group.
- No instrument or instrumentalist is allowed during the Auditions.
- The playing of instruments by contestants only is allowed during the Semi-Finals. The playing of instruments and/or use of instrumentalists is only allowed during the Grand Finals. Borrowing of instruments is only subjected to availability in the event that the participants cannot provide their own instrument.
- Instruments used in the competition are subjected to the Organizing Committee's approval.
- Each group is not allowed to change any of their group members after the Semi- Finals.
- Auditions will be held during the month of December 2012. Semi-Finals will be held in the month of February 2012 and Grand Finals, March 2012.
- Registration fee of $18 is applicable for this category.
- Closing date of registration is 4th December 2011.
Original Composition
- All compositions are to be in English or Chinese.
- The composer and lyricist need not be the same person and contestants can submit individual or group entries. For submission of group entry, contestants would need to indicate a representative of the group. The name(s) of other member(s) are to be included in the registration form.
- The music and lyrics of each entry song must be original and must NOT infringe any copyrights of any third party. In any event, the entry song should not have been published, judged by any other judging panel, broadcast, made available to the public or performed in public in any form (including but not limited to radio, television, and internet or performed at official events as special guests) at any time before the Grand Finals.
- Each entrant agrees that the publishing company has the rights to rearrange the composition and determine the singer(s) to perform the entry song at the Grand Finals as well as for the purpose of recording the entry song for inclusion in an album.
- To protect song writers' rights, if the song is not selected for the Grand Finals, the copyrights vested shall be reverted to the entrant upon completion of the selection process.
- Contestants are allowed to pen any song of any theme. However, the Organizing Committee reserves the right to reject any song deemed unsuitable for the competition.
- Contestants can send multiple entries but only one may be selected for the Grand Finals.
- A registration fee of S$12 is applicable per entry for this category.

- To successfully complete the entry, registration fee has to be paid.
- Closing date of registration is 4th December 2011.
- All entries are to be submitted within 2 weeks after the closing date of registration.
Dance
- Each contestant is allowed to form one dance group only.
- Each dance group should consist of 4 to 8 members only.
- There is no restriction to the genre of dance allowed.
- The performance should NOT take more than 2 minutes for Heats and NOT more than 5 minutes for the Semi-Finals and Finals.
- Contestants are NOT allowed to include dangerous materials (i.e. flammable and sharp objects) as part of their performance.
- Members of the previous champion team may participate under a new group name with new members. The new group must NOT consist of more than half of the members from the original champion team.
- A maximum addition/replacement of not more than one-third of the group members is allowed.
- Each group is not allowed to change any of their group members after the Semi-Finals.
- Dance Heats will be held in the month of January 2012, Semi-Finals will be held in the month of February 2012 and Grand Finals, March 2012.
- A registration fee of S$28 is applicable for this category.
- Closing date of registration is 4th December 2011.

Campus Audition
- Campus Auditions are only applicable to the Vocal Solo and Vocal Duet/Group categories only. All Rules and Regulations for the above mentioned categories are applicable for Campus Audition except for Clauses 13 & 14 (Vocal Solo) and Clauses 16 & 17 (Vocal Duet/Group).
- Campus Auditions are exclusively for current students and staff of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) or National Institute of Education (NIE) only. Valid Matriculation or Staff card must be produced on request for verification purposes.
- For Vocal Duet/Group, at least one member of the group must be a current student or staff from NTU or NIE.
- Contestants who attended Campus Auditions will be prohibited from participating in the public auditions.
- Walk-in Auditions will be allowed, but priority will still be given to registered contestants.
- Campus Audition will be held on 27th November 2010 in NTU.
- A registration fee of $10 is applicable for Vocal Solo (Campus Audition) category and $15 is applicable for Vocal Duet/Group (Campus Audition) category.
- The closing date of registration for Campus Audition is 24st November 2011.
